Networks in SVVSD

SVVSD Wired Network

The wired network allows access to the Internet, District printers, server shares and other in-district resources.

Access:

  • District owned devices may be connected to the wired network
  • Vendor owned devices as approved by DTS may be connected to the wired network  
  • Non-DTS network devices (i.e. hub, router, wireless) may not be connected to the wired network
    • Personally owned devices found to be connected to the wired network are subject to confiscation 

Locations: 

  • All SVVSD Buildings
  • Drop Activations and Configurations
    • Network drops are are only activated if being used by the site 
    • Network drops may be configured for different purposes
      • Phones and computers (standard)
      • Printers
      • IOT

Support

  • DTS will provide documentation and support for connecting district-owned devices

Web Filtering

  • Content filtering is based on the user/device. 
  • High school students and staff can use networklogin.svvsd.org to gain access to the correct level of access.
    • e.g. YouTube access

SVVSD Wireless Network

Network name: svvsd

This is the primary wireless network for students and staff. It allows access to the Internet, District printers, server shares and other in-district resources.

Access:  

  • A district Active Directory (AD) account is required to connect to SVVSD wireless. 
  • SVVSD wireless may be used with district owned mobile devices
  • Desktop computers and other non-mobile devices may not use SVVSD wireless.

Locations: 

  • All SVVSD Buildings

Support

  • DTS will provide documentation and support for connecting district-owned devices

Web Filtering

  • Content filtering is based on the user/device. 
  • High school students and staff can use networklogin.svvsd.org to gain access to the correct level of access. 
    • e.g. YouTube access

Guest Wireless Network

Network name: svvsd-guest

This is the guest wireless network for student, staff, and community personal devices. It allows access to the Internet but not in-district resources. Bandwidth is limited on svvsd-public to prioritize svvsd wireless.

Locations: 

  • All SVVSD Buildings

Access 

  • Guests must accept the Terms of Use Agreement to use svvsd-guest

Support

  • DTS does not provide device support for connecting to svvsd-guest

Web Filtering 

  • Content filtering is restricted to sites generally appropriate for an elementary school student.
    • e.g. YouTube is not accessible

Internet of Things Wireless Network 

Network name: svvsd-iot

This is a wireless network for district owned Internet of Things devices. It allows access to the internet but not in-district resources.  

Locations:

  • Activated as requested by sites using IOT devices

Access:  

  • A pre-shared rotating Key is required to connect to svvsd-iot wireless.
  • svvsd-iot wireless may be used with district owned IOT devices
  • Desktop computers and other non-mobile devices may only be used on iot-svvsd when interacting with district-owned IOT devices.

Support

  • DTS will provide connectivity support for district-owned devices
  • DTS does not provide device support for connecting to svvsd-iot

Web Filtering

  • Content filtering is highly restrictive
    • e.g. YouTube is not accessible
