Recording and Sharing Lessons Through Video

If it is appropriate to record a portion of classroom instruction with Webex, please be sure to follow the following instructions for best practices and to be in compliance with FERPA guidelines:

  • Avoid having the camera record students in class as much as possible (voices or likenesses).
  • If presenting a slideshow or other digital content, change the recording preferences in svvsd.webex.com to record “Content Only View” This will only record the screen that is shared within Webex and the audio of the meeting.
  • If presenting at the board or explaining something, change the recording preferences in svvsd.webex.com to “record active speaker only” and pin the host view to the Webex meeting for everyone. The host camera view will be recorded without recording virtual participants.
  • Depending on file size and bandwidth, it can take up to 24 hours to receive your Webex recording. We recommend short instructional videos rather than recording an entire class session
  • Webex support article on recording

If it is appropriate to record a portion of classroom instruction in person, please be sure to follow the following instructions for best practices and to be in compliance with FERPA guidelines:

Other Considerations

  • Before posting, review the video to ensure it is appropriate for sharing.
  • ONLY share the recorded video in Schoology or SeeSaw with students enrolled in that course. The video must be saved in a password protected environment to protect student data.
  • Keep in mind videos shared via Google Drive have a 100-view limit.
