By default, while on battery power, your display is set to turn off after two minutes. To change the default settings, open System Preferences and select the Energy Saver system preference (for macOS 10.15.7 and earlier) or the Battery system preference (for macOS 11 and later).
In the Battery tab, move the slider to the right to increase the time before the display shuts off.
IMPORTANT: For increased security and to protect your privacy, set a Hot Corner to put your display to sleep when you are away from your computer. With the new Touch ID, it is easy to wake your computer back up when you need it.
How to Enable a Hot Corner
- Open System Preferences and select Desktop & Screen Saver system preference
2. On the Screen Saver tab, click on Hot Corners…
3. Pick a corner (for example, the bottom left), choose Start Screen Saver from the drop-down menu and click OK
4. To immediately put the display to sleep when you walk away from your computer, simply move the pointer to the bottom left corner
