iOS apps do not complete download

Symptoms:

A user will go to the MDM or to the App Store to download an app.  In the App Store, the app may show the “cloud download” icon Screen Shot 2014-03-28 at 1.30.48 PM,  indicating it has been purchased but has not been downloaded. When a download is attempted, the user may receive a message that the app will be downloaded at no charge, but the download never completes.

Cause:

The app has been partially downloaded, but is waiting in an iTunes queue.

Resolution:

  1. Open iTunes on a computer and go to the iTunes Store
  2. Log into your iTunes account
  3. Click on your Apple ID in the upper left-hand side of the window and select Account from the drop-down
  4. You may have to enter your password, but will then be shown the Account Information screen
  5. Look at the top of this screen for a section indicating you have a pending download and click Download. Wait for the download to complete.
  6. On your device, return to the App store or the MDM App Store and download the app
  7. Log out of iTunes on the computer
