While it is tempting to play it safe, the more we’re willing to risk, the more alive we are. In the end, what we regret most are the chances we never took.            ~ Frazier

Take a chance or play it safe? Do you think that people in IT tend to play it safe or take risks? Where are you at?

  1. Human nature is to play it safe however I think “IT” people tend to risk more just to see how far the line can be pushed.
For myself – age, retirement looming, newly married and having grandkids are making me look at things more strategically.

    1. Can I submit “calculated risks” as a third choice? 🙂

I’ve witnessed our IT team be absolutely INTREPID when the benefit (the ‘why’) called for as much.

  2. Within our department, I feel like folks are good at balancing the two. By working carefully through the caveats and contingencies that come with taking a chance, our team does a great job of making sure we’re moving forward while still maintaining great service.

  3. There are certainly times when we have to play it safe, but I think we usually have to take chances. If we don’t take chances, we’ll never grow as individuals, as a department, and as an organization.
